I think they forked from Vyatta CE back in the day (after Ubiquiti hired
some Vyatta devs), and they have since switched out Quagga for IP Infusion
ZebOS (just like Vyatta did), which itself was commercialised by the
original author of Zebra (which was then forked to be Quagga because
Zebra development stopped). Everything old is new again. I don't know how
much collaboration between EdgeOS and VyOS still happens now.
VyOS is still stuck using a fork of Quagga 0.99.20.1, which is nearly five
years old now, due to the difficulty in forward-porting the Vyatta patches.
