Can't speak for Mac, but on Linux at least I have used dozens of
different adapters over the years and have never needed a driver, so
not sure what "support" is needed there. They've always Just Worked.
Whatever you get, make sure it is robust, with a nice solid sheath on
the cable and preferably captive screws on the business end. If you
will be working in racks, get the longest built-in cable you can (90cm
seems common enough, but 30cm is way too short).
Don't stint on the price. I bought some $3.00 units once that literally
(yes, really) fell apart the first time I unplugged them.
I use ATEN now. Short cable, but otherwise very nice.
