I’ve always still got a UC232A in my bag for incase I have issues with my AnthonyPanda BT adapter.
I know a fair few people using the PL2303 chipset cables however driver support (on OSX at least) is finicky at best. Chances are you will need to pay for the open-source driver or compile it yourself to get decent functionality out of one.

Resurrecting this thread (new Mac, no USB Serial Adapter).
Do people still recommend the ATEN? I’ve heard it’s harder to get hold of these days and doesn’t have much ongoing support, as it was acquired by Prolific?
Are the Keyspan or genuine Prolifics easy enough to find in Australia?

Another +1 for the Aten units. The newest version work on the Surface Pro 3 tablets too.
Another +1 for the aten unit. Been through a few different usb to serial
cables and this is by far the most reliable I have had.

+1 for the Aten units. Can get them from Anyware.
Work well cross platform and across different devices.

Hi Guys,____

What are people’s preferred USB to serial adapter cable to use
with Cisco console cables these days? I have tried many over the
years, and they are either unreliable, have driver issues, or blue
screen Windows too frequently.____

Don’t care about price – just want the most reliable one out there
– Windows preferred, but if it works with Mac too that’s a bonus.____
