[AusNOG] DHCP going astray on NBN tails

Hi All,

Some good news!!

Our friends at nbn™ and Alcatel Lucent (Nokia) have identified a NTD software defect responsible for this issue and will be rolling out a fix !



To re-iterate the issue at hand ;

Where a branch site CPE (Vendor agnostic) attached to an NBN tail is configured for DHCP IP helper back to a central site the functionality does not work.



Specifically;

* The DHCP DISCOVER is correctly forwarded by the CPE to the NTD UNI-D port, received by BNG at the head end and forwarded onwards to the central DHCP server.

* The central DHCP server responds with an OFFER, the OFFER is pushed to the NBN NNI by the BNG for the appropriate AVC but the OFFER never pops out at the NTD UNI-D port facing the CPE.

* The loss of DHCP OFFER occurs even when the DHCP packet is encapsulated in another intermediate protocol such as PPPoE..



Resolution ;

A new revision of firmware has been tested successfully and the information I have at hand suggests a national rollout will begin around Feb 8.

This update process should be completed by mid Feb all things going to plan.
