Could you just write a little PHP script to do it? I know the box can run PHP as we use it for various things.

convmv is a possibility however takes a fair amount of modification to the NAS as it does not run a standard kernel; it's possible to have convmv installed however if we can use native commands life would definitely be far simpler.
