I do not need 10 x 10 throughput, 10G would be maximum.



The real driving force is most data centre cross connections are the same price for 1G or 10G ports and to add a new router each time I want a new 10G port is becoming a very expensive way to scale.


Landing services onto a switch would be a better way to scale.

Do you really need routing capacity of 10 x 10 gbit ports ?



If not you could use a Brocade CER RT (1RU router) with 4 x 10 gbits and lag the 4 ports into a 48 port 10 gbit switch.... However that's still 2RU of space



You could also look at cumulusnetworks.com on a Layer 3 switch, but not sure how that would go with a full routing table.
