I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to post stuff like this,
but I was hoping on getting some advice for getting into the
telecomms/networking industry.
I graduated a BA in infotech (specialising in network tech) a year and a
half ago, and have been working a casual job as an IT fix-it monkey for a
year now, but my efforts looking for something fulltime and/or more
specialised in the industry haven't turned up anything. I got an interview
with Cisco in Sydney once earlier this year but that's about as far as I've
gotten.
It seems like everyone is looking for a lot of highly specialised
experience, like specific technologies from specific vendors. I'm not sure
where I'm supposed to obtain this kind of experience from without being
trained on the job. At this point I'd settle for an internship if it
exposed me to some kind of employable experience but I can't seem to find
that either.
How did the rest of you get your start in the industry? I'm not looking for
a silver bullet but any kind of direction would be appreciated.
