Comes down to what his goals are.

Politics
Building good infrastructure
Or ??

They are not always aligned. I have a friend in the IT industry who is still against any NBN as a waste of money.
Good infra projects take strong leadership and good forsight…

Personally... I believe Turnbull was hamstrung by Abbott. I think he would have been a far far better Comms Minister without Abbotts interference.

Let's see if he remedies some of the outstanding issues:

- NBN
- ACMA
- Data Retention
- Site Blocking
- New one where they tell you how to design your network

I still wonder how much of Turnbull's poor performance as communications manager was under direction from Abbott, and whether we may see some changes after the change of leadership. I just don't think someone with his legal, business and comms background (as much as his comms background could well have been in the legal/business side of things) thought that some of the policies he was pushing forward were any good. I wouldn't put it past him that he was happy to push stupid policy in the name of destabilising the leadership of the time...

There's also the chance that he *could* retain the portfolio (or return to it, given he gave it up yesterday as part of announcing his intention to challenge).

Back on topic, are there any decent candidates for the Communications Portfolio, I know *on paper* Turnbull had the best credentials, does anyone else stand out who could be competent with the portfolio? We don't need another Conroy or Minchin...
