I actually find it vaguely comical that people who either own or are employed by companies operating in a regulated industry don’t even try to understand regulations until after they’ve been imposed.

You aren’t running a neighborhood shop, guys. You’ve all chosen to earn your crust in one of the most heavily regulated industry in the nation. The Government does not care one whit about whether you know how to cram bits into a cable, but they expect that knowing about how regulations work will be your actual bread and butter.

Why else do you think Telstra employs more lawyers than the Department of Communications?

If you folks within the service provider industry aren’t prepared to take an active role in determining the regulations that dictate whether and how you’re capable of earning a living, why are you even here? Wouldn’t you be happier doing market gardening or retailing luggage or inventing offshore over-the-top services or something?
