[AusNOG] TPG acquires iiNet

I worked at WestNet for three years well before they were bought by iiNet and have been a customer for 15 years.
Media is doing the usual and speculating about what they think might be happening, seeing who can create the best story to get ratings.
I'm gunna give it a few months and let the dust settle, see what happens.

I agree, rightly or wrongly I think this will be viewed by the ACCC
as stronger competition for Optus/Telstra/Voda rather than less
competition overall.
I can’t help but wonder what the general consensus will be amongst
loyal iinet customer base? ie what portion of them will see this as
likely to impair the reputation for good customer service, or the
public stance on privacy etc etc and if such sentiments could result
in a significant churn..
I for one will be watching whingepool with interest from my new ISP.

With that many big players still in the market it’s rather unlikely
that the ACCC has much to go on here ...

Not if the ACCC says "no".

Correct, but since the iinet board has unanimously accepted TPG's
offer, its only a matter of paperwork now, so its as good as done
deal.

I think you'll find that this is a proposal and has not actually
happened yet.
