I agree with you about the focus on revenue generating activities, but
for antispam it's not so much about control over the spam part
(although that's good too), the place where externally hosted or
commercial antispam solutions fall down is visibility of legitimate
email that disappears into the ether. It can be frustrating (and time
consuming) when you can't see ingress TCP 25 from the sending IP, or
logs indicating why the first-hop antispam measure rejected the
connection or email.
