Dunno about the cables you use, maybe they are really nice, but the
$3.00 units I've used have always had really poor build quality (cable
pulls out, hood is paper-thin plastic, hoods in two parts that snap
together rather than being moulded, hood slips off DB9 plug, USB hood
fouls the USB slot, DB9 hood fouls the serial port, really thin cables -
that sort of thing.

The ATENs might cost $20 (in Oz) but they are robust, which is pretty
important when they are knocking about in a tool bag. The cable is short
- the thing is about a foot long in all - but you have to carry a USB
extension and a serial extension (or Cisco cable) as well anyway, and
that's all the length you need.

If you do buy the $3.00 ones, buy three at a time... :-)

Regards, K.
