[AusNOG] IP Blocks

If you're only buying transit from one provider, then you're correct,
you're not eligible - your upstream provider has to provide the IP's.
However if you are buying (*cough* or have the intention to buy *cough*)
transit from multiple providers, then quickly throw together a network map,
a 6/12/24-month business growth outlook (WRT IP Usage), pull out your
credit card, and spend the 15 minutes it takes to put in the APNIC
application :)

I had a client pay a rather large bill at 11pm on the 30th of June last
year (unexpectedly, wasn't expecting it for a week or so) so ended up going
through the process, and paid the fees at 11:59pm. Had a reply from Elly
at 1pm on the 1st, asking me to clarify a couple of details, and agree to
the no-transfer-of-resources-for-12-months rule, replied at 2pm, and then
at 4pm on the 2nd, I had my /22 :)

It was surprisingly SO much less painful than when I requested a /20 for my
employer back in 2001. (And in that instance, we were handing back a 22 x
/24's of Telstra space, while moving to MCT (who were totally flabbergasted
when we asked for a /20 from them, since we weren't technically eligible
for APNIC resources, as we were *moving* from Telstra to MCT - as it turned
out, they only had a /23 at the time!)
