It’s great when you build a datacentre under Mount Dandenong right under the TV / Radio towers for Melbourne perfect for UHF and VHF reception.

One bonus for being in Kilsyth….

Kindest Regards

In my experience, most DCs tend not to be in great spots for RF (with some notable exceptions). It is usually the customer's responsibility to serve the building with a low impact notice and bring the RF into a carrier area to be cross-connected.

FWIW, I'm in the process of doing something similar for a not-for-profit without a carriers licence - it has so far worked out a lot cheaper and easier to colocate the RF site somewhere else and overkill the connectivity/power redundancy than to go ahead with lawyers and substantial capital works in someone else's facility. There are a number of specialist land mobile wireless operators who already have sites with purpose-built RF colocation, complete with redundant power and backhaul. AMR (http://amr.net.au/) would be a good first point of call for a service like this.

Hit me up off-list if you need any further information.

Hi Daniel,

In most cases you will need to work with the DC Provider as they will happily lease you roof space or any other space you want. Much the same as access to private towers (ie. Cell Sites, Water Towers etc)

In the case of anything RF, it will be a matter of ensuring that the site users are not causing interference to each other so that they can cohabit the roof space happily.
Generally the site owner will oversee this with the assistance of either using external contractors or requesting a site survey before approving the access.

Cheers,

Greg

Gday Noggers,

I Have just had a different sort of request come past, where I have a customer who are looking for co-location for their equipment, However they are needing to mount a UHF/VFH Aerial on the roof for reception,

I was wondering if anybody off-list would be able to get back to me with rough pricing from previous similar types of projects they have been involved with, specifically at either Vocus Sydney, or Equinix Melbourne

TIA

Daniel
