So I was going to say that while I don't think you or your customer
are able to put the complete onus on them, I would be challenging them
on why they're still expecting you to run a >13 year old OS to run the
application, and what are they doing forcing people to buy old
hardware to run it.

But then I remembered you said your customer is moving away from it in
something like a year, so buying old hardware is a short term interim
solution.
