[AusNOG] network operators are failing to manage the conversation

... and as a result are losing the war.
Despite what the clueless-media and the established content
rights-holding megacorps would have you believe "illegally downloading
content in violation of copyright" is not and never has been "piracy".
(aargh, me hearties!)
Nor is it "theft" , "stealing" or indeed of those legally specific terms
(other than "copyright-violation").
Not legally, not literally, and not in any sense other than "the
megacorps are lying to all of us in order to protect their outdated and
quite frankly unfair business practices".
And the moment you convince the megacorps to actually start arguing
morals/ethics we can nuke them from orbit (because they are SO decidedly
and obviously "in the wrong" in almost every sense).
WE as a collective are failing our responsibilities, because FOR A START
we accept the fundamental (emotional-string-pulling) argument of the
megacorps, and arguing from THEIR basis is TEH FAILZ.
Until we turn this conversation around, we are doomed to the
consequences of our actions.
An Australian resident in Australia setting up a VPN and paying for
Netflix with their own legitimate and valid credit card is not "piracy",
nor is it "theft"/"stealing" and it is ABSOLUTELY NOT
copyright-violation.
It is vehemently against the Terms Of Service, but if The Service
Provider chooses not to pursue the issue then there's "no problem".
