Because the Govt. just gave them the instrument to collect vast amounts of metadata which is worth a significant amount of $$$ to those interested in data mining it.

If the Govt carries through with funding these data storage platforms, its a win win for the big guys. They are paid to collect data, and are paid by 3rd parties to mine the data.

Im still waiting for iiNET to offer me a LNS based offshore to terminate by PPPoE session onto. People are happy to pay for their privacy when this madness goes on.
