Thanks John, but that's not it.

The first thing I did was plug my laptop in and configure up a static IP in the range provided, which doesn't work.

The gateway is not reachable either from our side or the internet side of this service, so I am convinced the service has an issue.

Doing some reading on IPoE but I was told this service is not configured that way and we can plug any device into the first port on the NTD.

I can't believe the people at iiNet don't know about the service and can't tell me how to configure the service.

Probably the dreaded filter on the DHCP server that only allows one IP address to be allocated to your service.

If you change CPE you're screwed until someone works out the fault from first principles because, well, iiNet.
