I am using CentOS 6.5 at present,

Is there any way that you might be aware of that I can install another
package to fix this? Rather than editing the file to remove them?

That's not "m", that's "[m" which is how your system is displaying an ASCII
carriage-return character - CTL-M, 0x0D hex, 13 decimal. Probably means you
are using Unix or some other system that doesn't use carriage-returns in
text files. Or it may be a configurable setting in whatever is generating
the text.

Delete them - use tr, sed, awk, even vi.
