I believe it makes SIP domain auto-discovery fail too - I am pretty sure
that Lync relies on them for example (it extends on SIP).

It will break XMPP as well. And any application that uses DNS queries to
identify the server it wants to talk to based purely on user at domain
authentication/addressing (SMTP excepted, because DNS already includes a
specific entry type for that - MX records).

Yes, it is possible to use that to your advantage (to block specific apps),
but there are generally better ways to encourage your users to act in
certain ways - blocking them with technology generally just results in
people finding a way to circumvent the block...
