Because both the new and old versions support IPv4 (with associated UDP socket), you can only run one or the other, so if you need DHCPv6, you have to remove all configuration statements relating to the old version and work with the new one.

There are lots of hang-overs from the BRAS/BNG version though - the creation of /32s for every allocated address (even on a local segment) for example.

That said, there are some niceties that come across with regards to custom DHCP options field types that used to infuriate me no end using the old dhcpd.

If you need 12.1X in production for some reason (eg: you've purchased one of the new H2 models), stick with 12.1X44D25 - we've confirmed memory leaks in all other 12.1X releases currently available.
