May I humbly suggest (a) reposting to CentOS mail list and (b) letting 
people there know if you are using yum-fastest-mirror plugin because 
afaik it should work with fastest-mirror. Mind you, I've also got mine 
own plugged in as baseurl and I only fallback to mirrors if mine own is 
bust but as I indicate this seems more a RHEL/CentOS/SciLin type 
question than actual network related...
