[AusNOG] iiNet hosting out

Matthew

I think you under estimate other businesses,

I know for a fact around 12 – 15 web hosting company’s in Australia that ive used and over 30 in the US all use dedicated hardware and do not virtualize things,

The only reason the budget businesses out there use these virtualizations is for cheaper licenses, but as your well aware things like ESXI cause things to run slower then bare bone..

Besides this fact, my argument before still stands, Nobody can be No. 1

Daniel,

This goes well beyond the hardware specifications of a server or its software

Eg: For starters if you were to do an audit of all the web hosting companies:

- most would be using a virtual environment such as VMWARE

- most not in a cluster

- no management or monitoring

The point I am making is whilst we all think VMWARE is the bees nees we will have issues like this.

This issue should have been monitored and resolved or mitigated before it became an issue had they been watching over there servers.

That’s why ISP’s should be ISPs and Web Hosters and Data Service providers should be data service providers.

Eg, you don’t see Next DC offering web hosting ( Sorry Jarred I would have used SAU but you are a managed service provider so couldn’t use you haha )

Plenty of company’s and business’s out there call themselves No. 1, but its not true.. there can not be over a million No.1’s can there?

Really how would they measure it anyways? Ive been with a lot of other hosting companys in the past, and a handful ive used all had the same uptime and service level, those hand full can not be all No.1 so IMO I could not say any of them were No.1

My opinion anyways

I would have thought an asx listed company would be number 1 ;-)

Hi Matthew

After this my clients are thinking of some redundancy for their hosting. Regarding your signature, what makes you #1 for hosting? (as in how is that measured?)

Rofl they should leave the hosting to the people who know what they are doing (like me) and concentrate on being an ISP

Just my 10 cents
