<personal opinion>
First they attack SMTP then DNS, now BGP. Maybe we have to do a traceroute 
to every important host we visit (I actually do this for the DNS answering 
queries for my internet banking while wearing my tinfoil hat). And the 
next question is "do we trust whois?"
