Hear hear!
This is exactly the sort of behaviour that leads to low level officials
from local government, pet protection agencies and others getting all sorts
of data about citizens without court orders, or even minimal review. This
was what went into the record at the recent hearings of the Joint Committee
on Intelligence and Security.
And these laws were not enacted under Sen Conroy's watch, but have been in
the Telecommunications Act, The Telecommunications Inteception and Access
Act and others FOR QUITE SOME TIME! It has just taken until now for us to
notice even broader powers being asserted.
Remember: Coonan, Alston, Lee, Collins... these are all post 1992...
Howard, Keating, Hawke governments.
