This is true. Vendors often only supply the modules they are good at. It's generally higher power/longer distance stuff they fall down on. 

With custom coding you can. Not found one we can't do yet  :)

Not all vendors support BX in all ports.

Not that that is a source of annoyance to me.

So you might need to play the unsupported transceiver game, or find an optic vendor that will "customise" your BX to suit.
