Quite right we have deployed both 60 and 80km modules with clients. Of course if you want to extend the fibre even further you can put in a CWDM system.

The 40 and 80km variants are available and affordable nowadays. We use them quite a bit.
The 80km are typically 1550/1490nm to get the extra reach.

10G SFP+ on single fibre are available now too, for ~10km distances at least.
