Hi Bevan,
There was no offence intended. However, even if temporary, the key I mentioned was in existence.
Please take my comments as they were intended, as my opinion and some friendly observations based on my experience.
I'm sure the facility meets many security standards etc. I have equipment hosted there and have had no issues with security or reliability.
BOT
Kind regards,Josh

Josh,
Yeah – that’s pretty offensive and bordering on slanderous. Centralised electronic rack locking was installed day one too all standard racks integrated on the proximity cards (with readers at the end of the rows). There may have been some racks with temporary keys at times due to immediate customer demand prior to locking being provisioned within the normal timeframes. I understand they have performed a full upgrade of the centralised electronic rack locking system in recent times too.
And yes there are numerous security access points prior to enter the data centre floor and whilst it isn't a NEXTDC quality facility, it is much more robust than you suggest.

PS: I haven't been in there for three years, but I have people that work for me that have

We’ve clearly been to different PIPE DC’s in Fortitude Valley Josh. If you’re describing DC3 then the racks are opened remotely using relay’s triggered by
PIPE staff remotely and there are 2 security doors you have to pass through to get to any racks within the facility. It’s not a high class facility by any stretch of the imagination but a key on a shelf is making it seem a little worse than it actually is. Subject: Re: [AusNOG] Your Experience with Brisbane Data Centres If you're willing to look outside the CBD, Fujitsu run a DC in Eight Mile Plains. The crew there are professional from my dealings and they follow procedure. (no cardboard/static materials
allowed, power consumption planning, etc.) Compare that to the PIPE DC in Fortitude Valley (where there's one key that can open every cabinet, and it's left on a shelf you can just grab...) But I guess you get what you pay for. Cheers,Josh > Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2013 08:11:45 +1000
