FYI - Packetpushers have released their podcast on open EIGRP
http://packetpushers.net/show-144-open-eigrp-with-russ-white-ciscos-donnie-savage/
Fast forward to today, and Cisco has been able to publish EIGRP as an informational IETF draft known popularly as Open EIGRP. Two of the authors of that draft, Donnie Savage with Cisco and Russ White, join Ethan Banks on the Packet Pushers podcast for a discussion of Open EIGRP in this show.

Hey ausNOG,
Long time lurker, first time contributer.
This was discussed a few weeks back.
http://packetpushers.net/why-is-cisco-bothering-with-open-eigrp/
Russ White replied
http://packetpushers.net/thoughts-on-open-eigrp/
Donnie Savage, author of the draft, happily spoke about it to me over email if others are interested. He had plenty of time to chat and discuss.
And following the conversations, Donnie retweeted a friends post of OSPF vs EIGRP. Something worth reading - http://keepingitclassless.net/2013/03/a-contest-of-protocols-eigrp-or-ospf/
It would be interesting to see what everyone thinks. I personally see it as a vein attempt to regain lost ground.

The draft itself isn't really clear about what Cisco has done or why.
The FAQ is here,
