[AusNOG] Shadow Protect Vs Symantec with a Dell RD1000

If you're running a full backup every day then it `is` possible to use an RD1000 or other RDX/removable disk setup as they just appear as a standard drive (be sure to statically assign the drive letter to each cartridge).

However, if you're running any soft of incremental backup then I really, really wouldn't advise it as it can make recovering data near on (and in some cases completely) impossible.

ShadowProtect will backup to either a fixed repository (SAS / SATA) disk or DAS
(recommended)

OR

USB, NAS or ISCSI
(not recommended)

I would recommend you contact StorageCraft and grab a copy of Jack Allsop's guides on best practices to ensure a successful recovery.

They also run very good workshops that are well worth the money.
