Exactly.
Whilst you could pursue some form of compensation, it is unlikely to occur.
Another tactic is embarrassment. Perhaps ask journalists to contact
you off-list if you intend to go this route.

At best it is incompetence, at worst malice.
I believe the saying is:
Once is an accident.
Twice is incompetence
Thrice is deliberate.
