[AusNOG] Fiber connectivity

Not sure if you just got the part number wrong or maybe using the wrong part, but a WS-G5484 is not a 1000BASE-LX/LH GBIC but a 1000BASE-SX multimode GBIC.

The 1000BASE-LX/LH version is a WS-G5486

But you are right on the limit for a single fibre run. Each patch will add loss - and with six it all adds up. Unfortunately most enterprise network equipment is pretty much go or no-go as far as determining whether it works. You probably either need a OTDR test done on the run, or run things and 100BaseFX.
