Lots of people have addressed that problem: the answer is that she'll lose her phone line when the copper is disconnected, and have to pay $300 to get it back.

Not much more to say about it, really.

Then won't she accept Telstra's promise to seamlessly convert her behind the scenes to a Telstra NBN phone service? Loyalty must mean something, right?

This is all a bit ridiculous. It's like 15 years ago when people were saying, "VoIP will never take off because there are no quality assurances on the Internet," oblivious to the fact that even poor quality VoIP calls are superior to the GSM mobile they were using at the time.

Those people have never written any articles apologising to their readership about how wrong and stupid they were; they've instead just stopped talking about VoIP altogether and started writing articles about how Wireless means the NBN is useless and how the most important NBN issue in the whole world is whether the NTU has adequate battery backup. "Oh look, shiny thing!"

Quite a lot of people are paid to be wrong on a professional basis. It's important to be able to pick them out of a crowd :)

The industry is evolving. Have a good hard think about how it'll look after a few rounds of natural selection.
