Telstra fibre in melbourne (over wifi):

64 bytes from 74.125.237.83: icmp_seq=0 ttl=56 time=19.563 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.237.83: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=19.506 ms

Telstra cable:

64 bytes from 74.125.237.83: icmp_seq=5 ttl=56 time=28.461 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.237.83: icmp_seq=6 ttl=56 time=28.093 ms

Not as impressive as what others have been getting, but could be worse!

so according to this:

Equinix Sydney and Pipe IX SYD are their aussie network peering points, and
with the pings of sub 1ms from syd core links, there is google gear there
rather than just a peering trunk.

Wouldn't surprise me if Singapore was the closest google cache that Tel$tra
sees though!

Cheers,
Marcus.

1ms to Singapore and back would indicate they have some pretty fscking
awesome network kit which is capable of breaking what we understood to
be 'laws' of physics....

Of course they do. Google do everything first.
