[AusNOG] iiNet to Acquire Internode

Absolutely. It was desperately needed and market changing. It was an amazingly visionary and bold (balls to the wall) project lead by Andy Mc, Eddie and Clive. Real shame other parties killed it from an investment standpoint and almost killed Amcom at the same time. Great effort from Clive's and his team to bring Amcom back to life and grow the business.

Talking of takeovers…

I can remember back at PIPE getting very, very close at having a go at Amcom. In fact we were about to do a capital raising to allow PWK to do a full raid on their options (had already stealthily acquired equivalent of 5% of Amcom via ASX:AMMO options) and then a cornerstone stake raid and takeover offer, right up until we got a knock on our door from TPG the day before we were to hit the button. iiNet in specie distribution badda-bing badda-boom deal done. Well not quite – still would have needed to get Amcom Board and shareholders across the line.

It was a beautiful plan though and so, so close to rolling the dice :)

Cheers

Well done to Simon and MM. This is a marriage we all knew would happen, perhaps about 10 years later than originally expected :) I'd like to say a massive thank you to Simon and his management team at Internode (particularly JSL, Daryl, Pat and Shaun), to many of the current and previous tech guru's (think MMC, Mark, Daryl etc.) for their contribution to this industry and supporting so many others, particularly competitive infrastructure players and not just PIPE, but ETSA, Nextgen, Amcom etc..

We couldn't have done it without IP1. :)
