3G certainly doesn't substitute for DSL at home
I think for a LOT of people, especially older folks & students, it does.
FWIW I know a lot of people in both groups who ditched all fixed line
products for a mobile and a 3G sim.
I think the very affordable price point of basic access to broadband
over 3G explains why we have this:
"Digital subscriber line (DSL) continued to be the major technology for
connections, accounting for 44% of the total internet connections. However,
this percentage share has decreased since December 2009 when DSL
represented 47% of the total connections."
If all you want to do is online banking, read the news each morning,
do a Google search or two, and watch a handful of youtube videos,
then 3G really hits that spot - especially when you can do it for $15
bucks a month.
