[AusNOG] NBN - military pretense?

Hi All,

Ive been reading up on our military buildup and some of the proposed big
spend.

All of this military gear would benefit from having a robust communication
infrastructure (fibre in the ground) so Im wondering how much of the NBN
story could be driven by the need to keep up with a future Chinese arms
race.

Surely the NBN is driven by lots of requirements, but how important do
people think the military angle is?
