[AusNOG] smh: Misguided and stupid

Or even just have the govt setup a big HTTP proxy server, and anyone who
wants to 'opt in' to the filter, pops the .pac (iirc?) file in their
browser settings?
My neice was complaining last night that she can't access half the
internet on her school-supplied laptop, even when at home.. So I went
digging, and sure enough, it's set to use the DET proxy even when
they're off the DET network.. Sure, a quick redirect on the router at
home back to squid, fixed that up for her while she's visiting us, but
it occurred to me just now that that'd be a decent solution for home
users who DO want filtered Internet. - And ISP's don't really have to do
a thing.. Govt just peers at all the peering points to keep the cost of
customers who use the proxy down, and maintenance of the entire thing is
on the Govt..
Just a thought :)
