Telstra is to sack 300 executives in Melbourne and Sydney - around 10 per cent of its senior management.

The telecommunications company has confirmed 30 senior executives have been made redundant tonight.

It says it has yet to decide which middle and senior managers will go, but no frontline jobs will be lost.

Telstra says the move is designed to simplify the business, remove duplication and increase the speed of decision making.

Staff were told of the changes Wednesday afternoon.
