Subject: [AusNOG] Patriot Act and Australia
Importance: High

Hi All,

I hope this does not start an endless debate.

But the introduction of and AFP person yesterday (Very warm welcome Alex)
sparked a question.

Please can someone point me in the right direction with regard to Australian
legislation that is similar to the beloved Patriot ACT in USA and or
associated powers of Intercept of bodies like the AFP, ASIO, DSD, etc.
I have a reasonable comprehension of the Australian position contained
within "Legal Intercept", but I am keen for a broader view not with regard
to voice, calls, wire tapping etc, but rather data and the storage of data
on the "cloud"?

Also is there any intercept of Transit (inter Carrier and International)?

Not interested in web filters
Not interested in catching kiddie porn etc
Not interested on where there is a Court Order etc
Just the intercept of data in transit and rights to access data especially
anonymously to data owner (Crux of my interest)?

Thanks in advance?

Kindest Regards

Stephen Carter
