I still in support of a forum medium as the community portal and having
the ausnog mail list remain specifically for Network Operation matters.

The forums are good place to reference something you say donkeys months
back and wanted to reference it without having to return folders upon
folders of emails and then trying to decipher and sort the insignificant
emails.

Forums also offer some kind of moderation - should it be needed.
