Well I get my kicks out of building tesla coils, especially ones controlled by a computer interface jumped up by a relay bank controlling a capacitor bank.
A couple of years back I got my hands on a pole pig and a crap load of large scale electrolytic capacitors from an Army disposal type place in Wodonga (VIC)
Capacitors came out of an old (probably like 1950's thing) radar station box, which has the big round green / white screen.

Pole pig was sitting there and the guy gave it to me for 65 dollars because he didn't know what it was... it was fun having a generative transformer of that size...

Using three phase plus some really good charging bank designs it took about 45 seconds to charge my bank to give an arc of 1 metre for about 9 seconds.

:) Mum wasn't happy....
