[AusNOG] New list charter from the AusNOG Board

As Far as I was aware when signing up originally, there was no charter.

As far as I was aware it was a friends-of-pipe, customers-of-pipe, or people-who-had-been-to-pipe-drinking sessions list, and their friends, as a way of continuing further discussions after the hangovers.

That the list has changed to now have some sort of charter bears no resemblance to its origins.

This list has always been about beering-and-peering and everything else that goes with it.

I welcome the fact that there is a charter to try and make this list as neutral as possible, but it is what it is, and it started out as an informal ISP-CENTRIC way to continue discussions after boozy catchups.

I appreciate the fact that it now semi officially incorporates content providers and data centre providers in the charter as well pure-network-product operators, because, lets face it, we all interconnect anyway.

I never saw the charter originally, it is definitely hidden, so +1 for posting it front-and-centre on the ausnog.net website.

I would also like to acknowledge that the list has lost a lot of its early day elitist attitude, but not all of it, and there are many more contributers, as well as punters asking for a variety of help issues, and rather than getting blasted for asking questions or even posting (it always seemed that NOTHING was possibly ever on-topic), there is now a lot of useful information being shared.

I directly attribute this to the list HAVING a charter, which I welcome with open arms.

As far as I can tell, the list is used for.

1. To ask general help questions to an expert technical audience.

2. To discuss provider outages (network or DC's or Power etc) that may affect many of us.

3. To discuss political and proposed environmental policy changes that will have broad-sweeping affects

4. To organise Meatspace Social events to get away from the screen.

Have a good rest of Sunday.

Is it just me, or has the entirety of the discussion following the posting of
the new list charter been, in itself, a violation of the list charter?

(and pointless, and bureaucratic, and elevating process over outcomes,
as if anyone really believes that adding a checkbox will make any difference
whatsoever to anything)

Shutting up now...
