I think they are talking about 10GEPON. This is shared 10GE downstream, and 1.25G upstream.. the math's still does not add up. They could be just talking about the ONT interface speed:) it is GE

Actually it appears that the person who wrote this article is a bit confused
(The Age).

100 times faster than promised is what they state - 100Mb/s x 100 doesn't =
1Gb/s as we all know.

I guess the government and NBNCo have found a way to deliver 10Gb speeds to
every premise.

And I especially like this quote:
"NBN Co would offer unlimited download capacity at one gigabit per second
wholesale rates to retail internet providers" - great now customers will
be asking why retail ISPs won't be offering unlimited downloads."

Just read this one:
news.com.au/technology/network-will-be-10-times-faster-than-we-promised/stor
y-e6frfro0-1225904296822

Julia Gillard says "Residents in the Tasmanian towns with access to the
fibre were paying introductory prices from $29.95 a month for 25Mbs to
$59.95 a month for 100Mbs through three internet providers"

I'm guessing she means 25Mbps and 100Mbps is line speed rather than download
limit? and if that's intro price it'll be interesting to see what the price
is when the honeymoon period is over.
