[AusNOG] Test lab storage / racking

I *DID* use a Modempak 42U rack that was offered up for grabs by Bevan on here, swapped a bottle of scotch for it many moons ago.
Very small footprint next to a desk. (600x600).
It's survived 2 hours fires, just barely. (I think it started one of them).
All I can say is thank god for fire alarms.
If you are going to run this kit at home, i.e. where you sleep, put it as far away as possible and have a linked home fire sensor system if you are going to leave stuff running 24/7.
I don't run one at home anymore, too scared of house fires, but I do have it in my office at the DC for testing whenever I feel like it.
I strongly suggest if anyone is turfing racks to offer them up to AusNOG first rather than dumping them, i.e. free to good homes, as there are always new generations coming through and its one way to support the community at large.
I had some horrible racks that we junked that weighed an absolute tonne that would not have been appropriate to offer up for grabs, but I expect to have a few spare shortly so I'll put the call out.
(I should raffle Bevan's old one)

I used to, but I value my floorspace and peace-and-quiet at home!
I think there's still a 42U telco rack hanging around one of my mates places disused if anyone in Brisbane wants it. It's in pretty crappy condition though...

I have a full height 42RU rack at home. Bought it for like $50 off ebay.
Currently got an assortment of rack mounted servers and cisco gear in it.
