Aah yes. There are places to do spanning tree, and there are places not to.

I have an email somewhere from years ago where Radia Perlman (who
invented it) fullky endorsing that observation. She was quite
astounded at the time that people would even think of doing it in
metro area networks.

VPLS can be great for shipping VLANs and you get all the MPLS benefits
without the pain of routers in places you don't need them.

I was going to give examples, but after my original post I found an
email telling me I am now elected to the Board of ISOC, so had better
not endorse any particular routers! LOL
