The ZyXEL P-871M may be of interest.

I havn't used one myself, but have used the older VDSL1 version and they were fairly solid.

In effect, we're just trying to create a bridge between two LAN
segments, where we sadly can't use fibre but thankfully do have
existing pairs...

VDSL point to point kit, if reliable, is perfect. We've used blackbox
LAN extenders before

had some issues with reliability.

If any of the stuff you've used and can recommend is point to point
feel free to fire it over off-list and I'll give it a go... we're not
really after a Cisco LRE (RIP) type solution though as it is just a
single link.
