Depends what and who you're protecting against. The Queensland police
have a case documented on their website of a victim's mobile phone being
ported to another provider in order to get the authentication SMS -

rnet+phone+fraud.htm. I'm led to believe this is fairly common overseas
and not an isolated case in Australia.

Please don't - I hate these stupid things at work. :) .. I just avoid
needing the VPN for as much as possible and put off things requiring it
as long as possible.
SMS is a good option .. I'd use that. Commonwealth bank use that and
it's good for new transactions.
