BREAKING NEWS:
Mike Quigley to head NBN Co

Former Alcatel president Mike Quigley has been appointed the first
executive chairman of NBN Co, with former Telstra executive and Acacia
identity Doug Campbell to head the Tasmanian iteration.

Quigley is expected to relinquish the chair and become the CEO upon
appointment of the NBN Co board.

Communications minister Stephen Conroy said Quigley has had a
distinguished 36 year career at Alcatel, one of the world's largest
telecoms technology and network deployment companies. "He was most
recently President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, leading
more than 55,000 staff and responsible for operations in 130 countries.
Quigley also led Alcatel's team in the negotiations of the Euro 21
billion merger with Lucent Technologies which was completed in November
2006, before his decision to return to Australia in September 2007."

Quigley will commence his role immediately and be actively involved in
the NBN Implementation Study. "His appointment as Executive Chairman
provides the authority and direction to maintain the government's
momentum on this project," Conroy said.

Meanwhile, Campbell will be Chair of Tasmanian NBN Company Limited (TNBN
Co), a new company which will be established and jointly owned by NBNCo
and Aurora Energy. He spent 18 years with Telstra culminating in the
formation of Countrywide.

Some 5,000 premises in Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point in Tasmania
will be the first to be connected to the NBN.
