I'm not sure about the guard tone but if you listen across a line that a
Hatteras is connected to (either with a bud or a tone test kit detector) you
will hear a LOT of noise.  It should be obvious to anyone testing those
lines that there's something on it that's not voice, but that doesn't
usually stop people..
